Spirit of Excellence: Is Your Portfolio Ready?
This program honors schools that achieve excellence in leadership development, school spirit, and service to school and community. Awarded by the WASC, WIAA, and other statewide leaders to a school demonstrating excellence in leadership development, sportsmanship initiatives, and service.
There are slightly different guidelines for High Schools & Junior and Middle Schools. Take a moment to review — then get involved!
JAM Guidelines
Quick Overview:
- Portfolio based assessment which needs to reflect the time/documentation over a 12-month period. (February 1, 2012-January 31, 2013)
- Each region of the state will have a regional recipient selected for this award and from this pool of regional recipients, a state winner will be chosen.
- Regional winners will receive local recognition and a school banner.
- The state winner will receive a banner and assembly featuring statewide leaders—a true tribute to the excellence they have achieved.
- Members of the selection committee and supporters include: WIAA, WASDA, WASC, WAMLE, PTA, Rotary, and WEA Trust.
- Criterion necessary to be considered for this award include: completed portfolio, completed application, member of the WIAA, and member of WASC, WASDA, WASC, WAMLE, PTA, Rotary, and WEA Trust.
- Criterion necessary to be considered for this award include: completed portfolio, completed application, member of the WIAA, and member of WASC.
Electronic Portfolios Must Include:
- Leadership
- Achievement/excellence demonstrated in an academic field
- Achievement/excellence demonstrated in co-curriculars
- Achievement/excellence demonstrated in fine arts
- Dedication to leadership development outside of school
- Dedication to promoting respect/reflection of school’s core values
- Overall portfolio
- School Spirit
- Listing and description of spirit and sportsmanship programs
- Description of these programs
- Letters of reference validating good sportsmanship
- Service to School and Community
- Listing and description of school and community service programs
- Percentage of students involved in service programs
- Letters of reference validating engagement in community service
