About the Wisconsin Association of School Councils (WASC)
The Wisconsin Association of School Councils (WASC) is a statewide organization representing student leadership groups from public, private, and parochial elementary, middle, junior high, and high schools across Wisconsin. The organization is dedicated to supporting and advancing student leadership development.
Based in Madison, Wisconsin, WASC is guided by four core values: Education, Engagement, Empowerment, and Relationships. The organization hosts a variety of student leadership conferences and events throughout the year and provides professional development opportunities for educators who support student leadership programs.
Position Overview
WASC is seeking a driven and passionate Executive Director to lead the organization and advance its mission of expanding access to high-quality student leadership education across Wisconsin. The Executive Director will be responsible for guiding the organization’s strategic direction, strengthening programs and partnerships, and ensuring effective operations.
This role requires designing and implementing strategies and programs that support WASC’s continued growth while strengthening its impact on students, educators, and school communities.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will bring strong leadership and communication skills, including exceptional public speaking, writing, and interpersonal abilities. The Executive Director must be able to engage effectively with students, educators, partners, and board members.
Successful candidates will demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, and resourcefulness in serving the organization. A collaborative mindset, commitment to service, and genuine care for the mission of WASC will be essential to leading the organization effectively.
Primary Responsibilities and Expectations
Leadership and Governance
- Work closely with the Board of Directors to support organizational priorities and strategic initiatives.
- Represent WASC at state, regional, and national meetings and within partnerships with education organizations when able.
- Prepare agendas and facilitate meetings with the Collaborative Leadership Council and State Executive Committee as needed.
Organizational Operations
- Maintain the WASC state office and ensure the organization’s records, documents, and files are properly maintained.
- Oversee the management and inventory of WASC program materials and operational supplies including camp equipment, signage, flags, banners, promotional materials, and event supplies.
- Coordinate storage, transportation, and maintenance of organizational equipment used for programs and events.
Program Leadership and Event Coordination
- Plan, coordinate, and implement WASC programs and events in collaboration with the Program Manager as determined by the Collaborative Leadership Council and Board of Directors.
- Provide leadership presence and oversight at major WASC conferences, camps, and student leadership events.
- Recruit, select, and collaborate with program staff, workshop facilitators, and partners involved in WASC programming.
- Coordinate logistics for statewide events including scheduling, site coordination, program development, and participant communication.
Financial Management
- Prepare and manage the annual WASC budget in coordination with the Board of Directors.
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of financial transactions, including receipt of deposits, payment of invoices, and reconciliation of accounts.
- Serve as a responsible steward of WASC financial resources, including program budgets and operational expenses.
Partnerships and External Relations
- Maintain relationships with partner organizations including, but not limited to, AWSA, WIAA, WAMLE, the Milwaukee Bucks, and other leadership development partners.
- Provide consultation and support to regional executive committees and individual school leadership organizations.
Communication and Publications
- Oversee organizational communications including website updates, social media, newsletters, email communication, and digital publications.
- Ensure timely distribution of information to member schools, advisors, students, and partner organizations.
Staff Leadership and Supervision
- Provide direct supervision and guidance to State Office personnel, including the Office Assistant and Program Manager.
- Coordinate staff and volunteer responsibilities to ensure effective program delivery and organizational operations.
- Foster a collaborative and mission-driven team culture among staff and volunteers.
Event Attendance Expectations
- WASC programs occur throughout the year and may take place during evenings and weekends.
- Maintain a visible leadership presence at major WASC events and programs.
- Attend and participate in key statewide events annually.
- Event attendance expectations will be established in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
